As a Colonic Hydrotherapist with 25 years medical experience, specialising in cancer and manual lymphatic drainage therapy, I am passionate about wellbeing. And if there’s one thing that promotes good health it’s water – I cannot stress enough the importance of it in our diet.
Water makes up 75% of the body, with the brain and heart comprising 73% water and the lungs 83%. So it’s no surprise that dehydration leads to a whole host of health problems such as tiredness, feeling foggy- headed, bloating, constipation, even chronic pain and disease.
Drinking good, purified water every day sounds so simple, but the comments I hear in my Colonic Hydrotherapy practice for not doing this easy cleanse range from “it’s too cold to drink water,” to “I just don’t like the taste.” Often, the reason given is “I’m so busy I forget to drink” and, funny as it may sound, “I can’t afford the time to go to the toilet.”
It’s no good waiting until you’re parched to have a glass of water – you may not feel thirsty until it’s too late and your body’s already dehydrated and those headaches, sluggishness, dry mouth and lower back pain have begun in earnest. Trying to ease them with over-the-counter medicine, alcohol or fatty comfort food makes the problem worse because these cause constipation which can only be relieved by – you guessed it, water!
Once the body is dehydrated eliminative problems can become a real issue as the digestive process has been compromised and made sluggish. Symptoms include constipation, diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, flatulence, bloating, leaky gut and weight gain.
If you’re suffering from any of these Colon Hydrotherapy is a real option. It is simply the removal of this now toxic waste by the infusion of warm filtered water via the rectum, along with gentle massage to the abdomen which breaks up and releases matter safely and effectively. It may sound a little daunting, but Colonic Therapy is a tried and tested method of treatment and healing, used by the Ancient Egyptians and Chinese and dating as far back as 1,500BC. Ayervedic medicine from India also uses colon cleansing as part of its routine. Nowadays it’s often used in hospital settings to remove impacted stool or to prepare patients for bowel surgery.
If, like me, you care about staying healthy ensure that you drink enough water to keep your body in good working order. And follow my tips on how to kick-start your water habit.

Drinking enough water will give you clean, clear skin and good digestion
It’s no good eating healthy food without drinking water as it extracts the nutrients, and delivers them to the cells for metabolism. So add a glass of water to each meal.
Make water part of your routine. Keep a glass by your bed to drink when you first wake up, carry a bottle to sip as you travel, drink a glass as you’re preparing your evening meal.
